Hello,

This really doesn't seem like a good idea to me at all. A battery powered power supply that is guaranteed to provide power to a computer in the event of interruptions in the incoming electrical power. Thanks a lot....

This PSU is a gem! Modular, single rail and highly efficent. It was out of stock for a while but i guess Ultra decided to keep making em, after all they are quite pouplar. Too all those people who complan abut fried molexes and hard drives: dont give this product a bad name just because you wound up with a defective PSU, these things quite often in the computer hardware world. Its the fault of quality control dept but not the fault of the product. I recomend that any person who builds their own systems invest $20 or so and get a PSU tester in order to quickly diagnose a unit. I personally use a Rexus PST-3, the one with the LCD screen, that gives me the rail voltages. This way one can quickly determine that a PSU is bad before it gets installed.

I will start by saying I generally trust the Ultra line of products, and I really do think this is a fluke.

When my PSU arrived, I did as anyone would do and hooked that puppy up, checked and triple checked my connections, and held my breath as I pushed the power button.

The first thing I noticed was an electric burn smell and the fact the PSU seemed to "rev" slowly. I thought this was just a new item burn in smell so I watched the boot. Everything seemed fine (YAY!)...well, no... not YAY! I ran a program or two and then powered down to do a reboot. Posting seemed fine until the very end and it seemed to snag. I looked at my computer and both my DVD drives had their red activity lights on without the regular stutter. They were the only things connected to the molex connectors. I unplugged the molex and everything worked fine, other than the fact my two DVD drives are now possibly fried. :( Unfortunately Amazon doesn't have any more of these in stock so I have to pay $40 more at Tigerdirect. I want a modular. :( I will update this after I get my 2nd unit. If it works like I want, and my DVDs aren't actually fried, then I will upgrade the score.
